Targa 3.0

Please wait a few moments while our high-resolution photos load.

In 2017, Porsche delivered more than 240,000 vehicles around the globe. 34 years earlier, when this beautiful 911SC was built, it was one of just 2,750 such cars produced for world-wide consumption. How times have changed!

Naturally, the limited-production 911 "G" models, manufactured between 1974 and 1989, have long since become sought-after collector's items.

These cars are still extremely capable performers as they communicate a "modern" driving experience and can be enjoyed without worries on today's often crowded highways.

The '83 Porsche 911SC 3.0 Targa presented here, VIN *WP0EA0918DS160569* left Zuffenhausen in October of 1982 and was sold new by Atlas Porsche in Wilmington, Calif. to a college professor who would become its one and only owner, until he had to let go of the car for health reasons, earlier this year. Since Jack drove his 911SC sparingly, just 83k miles accumulated on the odometer in 34 years.

Books and records include the factory window sticker showing an MSRP of $34,545.00, the original purchase order dated 12/13/1982, the owner's manual, factory color brochure "Printed in West Germany," Porsche Family Tree booklet, 7-year anti corrosion warranty, warranty booklet, consumer information, color booklet, PCA invitation letter, and the user's manual for the CONCORD AM/FM/Cassette stereo.

Naturally, the trunk compartment of this low-mileage 911 looks impeccable. Note the merlot-colored vinyl folder containing the owner's manual. Also included: a Porsche repair manual.

I believe this might have been the first time the tool kit was removed from its protective plastic bag.

Dry California storage has been very kind to our 911SC. Removing the gray felt carpeting reveals every nook and cranny. All the factory finishes are still intact. And, yes, we checked: there is no corrosion in the battery tray area. Unused VREDESTEIN inflatable tire and factory tire jack are present.

Intact underhood labels for paint and fuel tank. New battery.

Immaculate -- all original -- undercarriage. Even hard to access areas are spankin' clean!

There are even substantial traces of the factory Cosmoline wax coating remaining, and that after 36 years on the road.
Only in California!

Yes, you're looking at 100% original Platinum paint, applied at the factory, back in 1982! It's evident that this Targa is free of rust or accident damage. Apart from a couple of very small dings, it presents breathtakingly original and super clean.

The removable, black Targa top is still original, just the headliner has been replaced. All weatherstripping on this car is soft, pliable and generally in excellent condition.

We've measured the paint thickness electronically to determine originality.

Yes, the paint checked out as being 100% original!

Jack, the car's original owner, makes an emotional statement confirming our findings.

This 911 features just the right stance. Cookie Cutter alloys were still optional in '83 and Jack paid a pretty penny for the extra-cost set of wheels, as seen on the window sticker.

Inside, a pristine cockpit awaits.

The car's gauges are bright, free of fading or checking. They all work as they should, even the clock. Dash is free of unsightly cracks or splits. This 911 was always garaged and covered.

Dark Brown leather is still original and has survived time and use admirably.

Pristine rear compartment. Original carpeting throughout.

Porsche's sexy rear. The unique California blue-and-gold vanity license plates will remain with the car, should it stay in the Golden State.

Toothbrush clean engine compartment houses the matching numbers 3.0 liter power plant.

Porsche's venerable flat six runs very strong and sounds heavenly.

Look, Ma, no leaks!

Wednesday, July 31st, was another lovely summer day here in our little coastal paradise and we were excited to take our beautiful Porsche out for a ride.

As you'd expect, the car starts, idles, runs, drives, handles and stops extremely well. Just the tires should be replaced immediately as they are old and appear flat-spotted.

Piloting this Targa is a pure delight!

In recent years, the Targa version of the 911 has equalled the straight Coupe in value as more and more enthusiasts came to appreciate it as the perfect combination of chassis stiffness and open-air fun.
Let the sunshine in, become one with nature, and enjoy the unique sound of the air-cooled three-liter engine!

All-original '78-'83 911SC Targas are thought of as truly bullet-proof investments. They're among the most sought-after classic Porsches today.
Here's a bona fide opportunity to snag a one-owner, original-paint, low-mileage example from California. It checks all the right boxes!
