Porsche's Model 911 has gained its incredible reputation by being a minimalist sports car that has everything one needs, not more, not less.

The longhood models from 1965 'til 1973-1/2 personified this philosophy to the extreme. When US legislation demanded additional safety features starting with the 1974 model year, the 911 gained weight. At least most of them. Not all.

The 1976 Porsche 911S Coupe featured here is among the purest examples of its kind. A no-sunroof car with crank windows and no additional equipment that adds weight, it's a driver's car by the true meaning of the term.

Built in November of 1975, this Nine-Eleven has lived its entire life in sunny Southern California. It still carries its original blue-and-yellow California license plates like badges of honor they have become.

Sold new @ Martin Johnson Porsche in Oakland, Calif. to a Lady from San Rafael, this 911S had just two - female - caretakers during its 41-year history.

The original owner's manual and gray plastic "service id card" are still with the car, as well as both 1976-vintage California blue-and yellow license plates 670PGO.

In 1993, the car's second owner had Porsche-Guru Sam Sipkins perform a full engine rebuild, to the tune of $8,628.97, a lot of money at the time. All the known 2.7-liter issues were addressed and the engine runs like a Swiss watch; it also passes the strict California smog check without a hitch.
Since the rebuild, this life-long San Francisco area Porsche has covered less than 15K miles.

Trunk is bone stock and superbly preserved, including the factory felt carpeting. Note factory tool roll and plastic sheets.

Stripped of its clothes we find nothing but healthy factory finishes. Spare is date coded and has never been used.

Perfectly preserved nose: no accidents, no battery leakage, ever.

Porsche's undercarriage is of reference quality. Absolutely mindboggling!

Wheel wells

Never been apart, this 911S shows perfect gaps and shut lines throughout.

Fuchs wheels are pristine!

The largely factory paint suberbly preserved. There are no dings, dents, or scratches worth mentioning.

Original headliner and sunvisors. Both dome lights work.

More to come . . . .
