The 6-cylinder cars are solidly in 6-figure territory now, and the V8-powered cars usually demand at least $250K as price of admission.

This particular 250SE Cabriolet, one of 954 cars built during its 2-year production span, is special in more than one way, and presents a unique opportunity to join a very exclusive club at a greatly reduced price.

A California car from new, it was reportedly originally owned by actress Lucille Ball. In the 1980s, the Cabriolet was sold to Tony Nancy, upholsterer of the cars of the stars and car guy extraordinaire. An ex drag racer and lifetime hot rodder at heart, Tony installed the V8 engine in the car and enjoyed the enormous boost in power 'til 2001, when he sold the car to its third owner, a retired stuntman who also happens to have a rather large car collection.

The car comes with a Certificate of Authenticity, and presents itself today -- half a century after it was was made -- in wonderful condition. Adult owned, it's been used, but not abused and displays a mellow, even patina all around.

Blue canvas convertible top is in excellent condition. Headliner is still original.

Finished in Medium Blue, the finish is very pleasing. Not perfect by any means, but quite splendid for a driver.

Interior is largely original. Tiger wood is marvelously preserved.

All of the gauges work. Original Blaupunkt radio and dealer-installed Kuhlmeister air conditioning.

While there's certainly room for improvements, this V8-powered star cruiser can be enjoyed the way it is.

Drive it 'til the wheels fall of, or restore at your own pace, as time and budget allows.

Splendid chrome bumpers.

Original rubber trunk mat, spare, and jack.

Rust free trunk floor

Solid undercarriage, as you'd expect it from a lifelong California car.

Nobody but you will know that there's a very potent V8 hiding under the hood. But when you step on the loud pedal, this convertible accelerates with the best of them.

Opportunity calls, are you ready to answer?
