We like original cars, and this California-from-new 1981 BMW 320i Sunroof is one of those cars that escaped the customizing crowd for over 4 decades.

Following in the footsteps of the 02 series -- namely the legendary BMW 2002/tii -- the E21, built from 1976 until 1983, is already on the path to becoming a cherished collectible in its own right.

The 320i maintains the size and the character of an agile driver's car, yet is a bit more refined than its predecessor. Thanks to the fuel injected 4-banger, coupled to a "real" (no overdrive) 5-speed manual transmission, the car has outstanding road manners, no matter how you drive it.

This 'un has been a California car from new, residing in the Los Angeles area.

VIN *WBAAG3303B8019060* has never been in an accident and all numbers match.

The car comes with a clean California Certificate of Title and a new Smog Certificate.

With just 65,580 miles on the clock, 41 years after it was manufactured, the car is a prime candidate for a "keeper."

The car has been driven very little within the past few years. The last two service bills from "Superstar of German Cars" date back to October 20, 2020 and October 30, 2020, at 65,537 and 65,545 miles.

Original Owner's Handbook comes with the car, but it has been baked inside the glovebox.

Since this Bimmer has never been apart, all the gaps and shut lines are perfect. Factory alloys are free of curb rash.

The Safaribeige (code 147) paint is almost entirely factory original.

We had the sunroof repainted and there's some blend-in on isolated spots but you'll really have to know it in order to detect it.

Let's look under the hood -- bonnet for our friends on the island -- and we don't see a spot of corrosion here either. Hood pad is new.

Under-hood engine labels . . .

Motorvation comes from the legendary M10 inline-4, here boasting 1.8 liters of pure joy, fed by Bosch fuel injection. If you didn't know it better, you'd bet the engine is an inline-6, so very smooth does it run!

The engine is healthy as the proverbial ox. No ill behavior, no strange noises, no issue of any kind.

Neither are there any leaks.

Stock alloys are shod with 185/70-13 tires on all 4 corners. They have about 70% thread left.

Functional and ergonomical dashboard features a crack-free top.

All of the gauges and switches work as they should. There are no warning lights on and since this is a pre-OBD car, no "check engine" lights exist.

Factory A/C with radio delete plate.
Unused ashtray.
Working seat belt warning lamp.

Seats are bone stock and all original, save for the outer edge of the driver's seat which has been redone.

Front passenger seat is primo.

Rear bench seat is flawless.

All of the lights work as they should.

Cavernous trunk features the stock carpeted trunk mat in great condition.

Factory jack, spare, and tools.

This Beemer's all-original undercarriage is out of this world and gives testimony that this is a low mileage California car.

We haven't seen a nicer undercarriage on a 41 year-old car in a long time! Everything you see here is factory original, including the brownish Cosmoline wax. We call this reference quality!

A picture says more than a 1000 words. Here are nine detail photos that tell the story better than words could.

Living in Southern California has its advantage, one of them that it only rains a few days in the winter. The rest of the year it's sunshine, sunshine, sunshine!

Mechanically, the car is outstanding. The car starts, runs, and drives superbly, without any issues at all.

The car is very peppy, super responsive, fun to drive!

There are no fluid leaks, no shimmies, no squeeks. The only mechanical issue the car has is a damaged sunroof cable. A new one is still on back order.

If you are ready to jump on the bandwagon before the train speeds up so much that you can't pull it off anymore, now is the time!

Thank you for your interest.

Addendum:
We sold this Bimmer in February of 2022 to an enthusiast in Kentucky.
